Bases loaded in the last inning with the game on the line. It’s every baseball player’s dream scenario for when they come to the plate and Sigourney’s Bo Schmidt got to live that scenario on Wednesday with the senior delivering a walk-off grand slam to send North Mahaska packing with a 10-6 win. 

Trailing 6-4 in the home half of the seventh, the No. 9 ranked Savages had to rally just to tie it and they kept the pressure on the Warhawks (8-4) by loading the bases with Schmidt doing the rest. The senior also tossed six innings on the hill and Ty Shafranek picked up the victory with an inning of work. This game followed a 6-3 triumph over North Tama on Tuesday where Jake Moore went 3-for-4 with one RBI and Garisin Hynick brought in a pair of tallies with two hits. Levi Crawford was the pitcher of record throwing three innings of three run ball surrendering two hits. Sigourney stays unbeaten moving to 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the South Iowa Cedar League. 

Two days after a Josephine Moore walk off bomb against Colfax-Mingo Monday, the Savage softball freshman went yard again, but this time in a comfortable 9-0 win over the Warhawks (5-5). The freshman finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and Macy Fisch brought in two tallies. It was a monumental night for Carly Goodwin in the circle with the sophomore eclipsing 500 career strikeouts. She sent down 17 North Mahaska batters in a complete game shutout allowing just three hits and one walk. The Savages move to 8-3 overall and 7-1 in the conference. 

Both Sigourney teams travel to Montezuma tonight.
