The Iowa Association of Track Coaches released its postseason awards for the 2022 spring and several KCII area athletes received recognition. 

The top two of each event from each class were named all state including the top four overall receiving elite distinction. On the girls’ side, Mid-Prairie’s Mitzi Evans was all state in the 200m and 400m and received elite status in the 800m for class 2A. The senior was also apart of the elite distance medley relay team that included Madeline Schrader, Amara Jones, and Danielle Hostetler. The sophomore Hostetler was named all state in the 3000m run. On the boys’ side Mid-Prairie’s Jayden Stafford was all state in the 100m, 200m, and 400m wheelchair. Washington’s Elijah Morris was elite distinction in class 3A for the 400m and he was a part of the elite distance medley relay team consisting of Ethan Patterson, Jacob Miller, and Lance Sobaski. Brayden Hartman cracked the top two in the discus. 

Four area individuals were named academic all state with this award going to seniors that competed at the state meet and have a 3.8 cumulative GPA or higher. Recipients included Washington’s Sobaski, WACO’s Jonah Clark and Zach Schmitz, and Highland’s Connor Grinstead. 

A couple area coaches received awards with Mid-Prairie girls coach Chris Tyler being named coach of the year in class 2A and Washington boys head man Steve Roth being an at large coach of the year in class 3A. Tyler led the Golden Hawks to their fourth straight team state title and Roth orchestrated a fourth place finish for the Demons.
