Chuck Grassley easily defeated primary opponent Jim Carlin winning every single county and pulling down 69% of the vote in Washington County alone. Grassley is the current longest tenured Republican Senator serving over 41 years after taking the seat in January of 1981.

When asked about his most recent primary results Grassley noted that having an opponent on Primary Day is an experience he hasn’t had to deal with in a while.

“This was my first primary I’ve had since my original election to the Senate in 1980, it was a hard fought campaign and I had to work extra hard. But it is really a tribute to all my years of service to win the primary 75% to 25% and I thank all Republicans for their continued support. It’s very gratifying to have that type of support.”

Grassley also wasted no time in taking aim at his opponent for the upcoming election in Michael Franken labeling him as the most “radical” candidate of the three Democratic nominees.

“Everything I hear from my town meeting is how there is something wrong with the Biden program and Franken has given Biden very high marks in the past.” Election day for the US Senate is set for Tuesday, November 8, 2022 and if you need information on your local polling places you can reach out to the Washington County Auditor’s office.
