A game with plenty of Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division title implications on the line went No. 9 Mediapolis’ way last night when the Highland baseball team didn’t have enough in a 12-8 home loss.

Winners of 10 straight, the red hot Huskies got punched in the mouth early trailing 10-0 after four when the bats awoken. The red and white raced back to score eight consecutive runs in the next two innings, but two Bulldog (16-0, 11-0) tallies late was enough to hold off the rally and take control of the league. Highland finished with nine hits including a 3-for-4 with two RBI performance from Logan Bonebrake. Ethan Paisley suffered the loss tossing 3 1/3 innings on the hill surrendering five earned runs on six hits. Highland is now 15-2 overall and 9-2 in the conference.

The softball team got it done at home with a 6-4 win over Mediapolis (4-13, 3-10). Leading 2-1 in the fifth, the Huskies tacked on four more in the frame that built some cushion en route to the conference victory. The offense recorded eight knocks with Payton Brun finishing 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Grace Batcheller tossed 6 2/3 innings surrendering just one earned run on three hits and striking out six. The team improves to 12-7 and 9-3 in the league.
