In a strange day of roughly 10 innings of baseball, Hillcrest Academy dropped a pair of Southeast Iowa Superconference contests Wednesday. Action started in the morning when the Ravens boarded a bus for Mediapolis, to complete a game that was suspended in the fifth inning Tuesday night due to weather with the score at 7-2. The initial segment of the game saw each team score two in the first before Mediapolis took the lead for good with a five run third prior to suspension. After action resumed, the Bulldogs put up two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to take an 11-2 win. The Ravens had three total hits against No. 9 MEPO with Liam and Luke Schrock and Rowan Miller each having a knock. The Schrock’s each had a run while Luke Schrock and Jace Rempel drove in one each. Luke Schrock took the loss on the hill, throwing four frames, giving up 10 hits, four earned runs and striking out three.

In the afternoon the Ravens returned to Kalona to take on West Burlington falling 8-6. The Falcons took to the lead with a three run first inning that included a two-run homer by Hayden Vandenburg. The advantage would grow for the guys in green as they scored once in the third, three times in the fourth and another in the fifth to go up 8-1. Rowan Miller scored for Hillcrest in the third. Down seven, and down to their final three outs, Hillcrest rallied, sending eight to the plate, including the tying run, and scoring five runs on four hits. Micah Gerber, Grant Bender, Rowan Miller, Liam and Luke Schrock all scored with Luke Schrock’s RBI triple the highlight.

Luke Schrock was the lone Raven with multiple hits and RBI, going two for four at the plate with a single, a triple and driving in two while scoring a run. Phoenix Anderson took the pitching loss for Hillcrest working five innings. West Burlington had two home runs on the day with Gabe Zurita also leaving the yard. Kody Allen went six and a third in picking up the victory. With the loss, the Ravens are now 7-10 on the year and host Pekin Thursday.
