It was a successful close to Southeast Iowa Super Conference play for the Lone Tree baseball and softball teams on Tuesday when they swept a pair of home games against Wapello.
The Lion baseball squad trailed 2-1 in the sixth when they put up a five spot in that frame that paved the way to a 6-4 victory over the Indians (3-15). The black and gold managed 12 hits with Cade Shield and Tyler Bell each having a pair of hits and two RBI. Shield picked up the win on the hill tossing two innings without giving up an earned run and surrendering just one hit. Lone Tree ended the regular season last night and fell to West Liberty (12-12) by a 10-6 count. The Lions are 7-13 overall and 6-8 in the SEISC. They open the 1A districts on Saturday at Pekin (9-12). The middle innings were kind to the Lone Tree softball team against the Arrows (15-11) and they picked up a 7-6 signature win. They are 11-13 overall, 7-8 in the league, and open regional play tomorrow hosting New London (4-20).
