Tuesday’s Class 1A district semifinal at Highland High School pits a pair of KCII-area rivals against one another when the Highland baseball team welcomes Hillcrest Academy to Riverside. The Huskies come into the game with a 21-3 record after an 11-1 opening round win in five innings Saturday over Montezuma. The Huskies are hitting .357 as a team with four players over .400 led by Trevor McFarland at .493 with 37 total hits and 26 RBI. On the mound Highland has a 2.28 team ERA with Chase Schultz at 9-2 with a 1.84 and Ethan Paisley 5-1 with a 2.20.
Hillcrest Academy is 12-10 on the year after an 11-2 opening round win over Grand View Christian Saturday in Riverside. The Ravens are hitting .248 as a bunch with Luke Schrock at .391 with 34 total hits and 29 runs scored. Seth Ours and Jace Rempel are tied for the team lead with 22 RBI. On the mound the Raven staff has a 4.22 ERA with Ours at 4-2 with a 2.42 mark and Schrock 3-2 with a 3.73. These two teams met twice during the regular season with the Huskies winning both, a 12-5 victory on May 24th in Riverside and a 5-1 win at Duane Banks Stadium in Iowa City on June 13th.
The winner of this contest will play Saturday in Riverside against the winner of Lynnville-Sully and North Mahaska for the 1A district eight championship.
