The Cedar Rapids Police Department arrested thirty-nine-year-old Mathew Albright of Cedar Rapids for second-degree theft and possession of methamphetamine, both of which are Class D felonies. Albright was also arrested for 3rd-degree burglary of a motor vehicle.
Albright was wanted out of Washington County for driving while barred, which stems from an original incident in June of last year when Albright and an accomplice were accused of trying to break into a Riverside residence before leaving in the owner’s RV. The additional charges of 3rd-degree burglary and operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent were dropped as part of a plea deal.
As part of the plea deal, Albright was sentenced to an incarceration term not exceeding two years at the Hinzman Residential Correctional Facility in Cedar Rapids. On May 29th, 2022, at 11:30 pm, Albright was placed on escape status.
A detainer has been placed with Linn County, and Albright has been issued a $15,000 cash bond or surety bond. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
