The next stop on the playoff road for the Sigourney softball team sees the Savages back at Schafer Field Friday against the Wapello Arrows in the semifinal round of the Class 1A regional tournament. Sigourney comes into the contest with a 22-5 overall record, after an 11-1 win in the quarterfinals over Holy Trinity Catholic. The South Iowa Cedar League Champions were ranked No. 11 in the final 1A poll of the year produced by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. This season, Sigourney is hitting .377 as a team with four players above .400 led by Carly Goodwin at .432. Josephine Moore has driven in 29, Ava Fisch has 35 hits and Courtney Hemsley has scored 28 times. In the circle, Goodwin has worked 113 innings with a 15-3 record and 0.37 ERA.

Wapello is 16-11 this season. They finished 8-8, third in the Southeast Iowa Superconference North Division. They beat Lone Tree 4-2 on Wednesday to advance. This year, the Arrows are hitting .323 as a team with three players over .400 led by Sera Shafer at .529 with 47 runs and 45 hits. In the circle, Ada Boysen has thrown 87 innings with a 9-6 record and 3.14 ERA. The winner of this contest moves on to the regional finals Monday, one game shy of the state tournament in Fort Dodge. Action between the Arrows and Savages gets underway Friday at 7p.m. in Sigourney.
