On Tuesday, July 5, Iowa City Police Department Officers responded to GuideLink Center at 300 Southgate Avenue in Iowa City.

Law enforcement was called to GuideLink Center after an individual went into the building and began physically assaulting staff members.

Once officers arrived on scene the individual began assaulting law enforcement before being detained..

During the incident a backpack was left on the scene by the individual.

The Johnson County Metro Bomb Team removed the suspicious package and secured the area..

The GuideLink Center’s mission is to provide immediate care for adults facing emotional, mental health, or substance use challenges.
