The quest for a state bid fell short for the Highland softball team on Friday when they couldn’t get the bats going against No. 7 Twin Cedars losing 4-1 on the road in a class 1A regional semifinal.

The Huskie offense struggled for two hits against Saber starter Grace Bailey with their only run coming on a RBI single in the fourth by Grace Batcheller. Payton Brun had the other knock for the red and white. Batcheller did her part in the circle tossing 5 2/3 innings giving up just three hits and all four runs were unearned. The defense committed five errors in the defeat. Twin Cedars scored twice in the third, once in the fourth, and one more insurance tally in the sixth.

The Sabers improve to 25-3 and move on to the regional final Monday against Sigourney (23-5). Highland bows out at 21-9, their second consecutive 20-plus win season. They bid farewell to a couple seniors in Batcheller and Mackinze Hora.
