After being discussed at the previous two Washington City Council meetings, a bid was accepted for the 2022 sealcoat project at the July 5th City Council meeting. Sealcoat, or pavement sealing, applies a protective coating to asphalt-based pavements to provide a layer of protection from the elements: water, oils, and U.V. damage.
The budget for the sealcoat project was set at $100,000, and efforts were made to try and find a bid that could encompass all of the previously covered areas for that price. The lowest bid received for covering all the previous areas was $125,000. The Council agreed to stay within its original $100,000 budget and will divide the project’s focus based on priority.
Washington Mayor Jaron Rosien talked to KCII about the changes to the 2022 sealcoat strategy.
“So, while the awarded bid was awarded for $125,000, work has only been authorized for $100,000. There’s going to be priorities one, two, and three. Less of priority three will occur this year and will be pushed back to next year according to the city budget. We are sticking with the budgeted amount for the sealcoat project, which means some priorities will be higher than others.”
The next City Council meeting will be Tuesday, July 18th at 6 pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Contact the City Clerk for the invitation link if you are interested in attending the meeting virtually.
