Athletics goes way beyond what you can do on the field and WACO’s Lilly Clark is a shining example of this recently receiving a character driven award by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
The senior played for the Columbus Community/WACO softball team this summer and was nominated by head coach Katie Coil to win the E. Wayne Cooley “You Can” award. This recognition is given to players that illustrate qualities of determination, character, and the values of pursuing victory with honor. It is an opportunity to highlight inspirational girl athletes in Iowa that have influenced their team in a positive manner outside of their play on the field. As part of the nomination process, Coil had high praise for Clark on this year’s team. “She is a positive soul on our team that will go above and beyond to make her teammates happy. She is very caring, kind hearted, and funny.” E. Wayne Cooley was a longtime executive secretary for the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and helped build the organization into the nation’s leading high school program for girls.
Clark plans on pursing a career in Agriculture studies and hopes to become a teacher.
