The Washington County 4-H Communications Night was held on Wednesday, July 13th, at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Sixty 4-H’ers gave educational presentations, and seven participated in the extemporaneous speaking division.
Anna Nafziger and Ally Rees were selected to represent Washington County at the Iowa State Fair in extemporaneous speaking. For the senior presentations, Alexa Huber was chosen to represent Washington County at the Iowa State Fair. Payton Peck was selected as the State Fair Alternate.
Grace Puttmann, Caedyn Huston, and Hannah Rodgers were selected for the Iowa State Fair in the intermediate category. The junior category State Fair participants will be Elijah Puttmann and Preston Ford, with Tessa Bombei being the State Fair Alternate.
Amy Green, the 4-H & Youth Coordinator, says this event is just one of many ways that 4-H tries to build a positive public speaking experience. “Public Speaking is something that 4-H prides itself on, whether they are just starting out with us or are in their senior year. We try to give them as many opportunities as possible to speak in front of a crowd, and sometimes it’s as simple as a roll call at a meeting, and sometimes it’s as dramatic as performing on stage.”
