As part of the Curriculum Directors’ presentation at the most recent Washington School board meeting on July 13th, the Washington Schools TLC program was reviewed, and changes were discussed for the next school year.

The Washington Schools Teacher Leadership Consortium (TLC) program is designed to encourage teachers to become leaders within the district. Currently, the program employs five instructional coaches that meet with teachers to discuss new strategies for engaging with students and other types of strategies. The main goals of the program last year were to distribute leadership roles amongst the Pre-K-12 staff, ensure quality professional development, and improve student growth. All the goals, after being evaluated, were determined to be fully or mostly met.

Washington Schools Superintendent Willie Stone describes the impact of this program. “42% of our teachers are serving in a leadership role for our TLC program, and we have mentors who make up around 22% of our teachers. So about 64% of our staff in the TLC program are involved in a leadership capacity.”

For those who have questions about the TLC program or other Washington Community School District programs, contact information can be found on the school district’s website. The next meeting of the Washington School Board will be Wednesday, August 10th at 7 pm in Washington.
