Six Washington softball players recently received postseason awards from the Southeast Conference being named all conference selections.
Headliners for the orange and black included first team honorees in sisters Leighton and Bella Salazar. Leighton busted onto the varsity scene in her eighth grade season by posting the second highest batting average in the league with .460, her 45 runs scored ranked third in class 3A, and she got on base 55% of the time. She stole 28 bags and defensively threw out nine base runners as the catcher. Bella recorded a .405 OBP and brought in 23 runs. The freshman was the Demon ace in the circle tossing 109 innings with a 4.56 ERA and striking out 94 batters to rank fifth in the SEC.
Second team selections included Ella Greiner and RyLee Fishback. Greiner registered a .410 on base percentage, scored 21 times, and had 19 RBI. Fishback had a .366 OBP, brought in 23 runs, and had seven extra base hits. Honorable mention selections included Ava Turner and Halle Cuddeback. Turner had a .265 average and plated 14 runners while Cuddeback pitched 81 innings and finished with a 4.99 ERA. Players that made the academic all conference list included Turner, Hayden Janecek, and Haley Mitchell.
Furthermore, the Demons had their end of the season banquet on Monday with team awards being handed out that includes Leighton Salazar winning MVP, offensive player of the year, and rookie of the year, Lauren Hinrichsen being defensive player of the year, Bella Salazar being pitcher of the year, Kendall Hinrichsen won most improved, Emmy Wenger received the competitor award, Ava Turner won the extra inning award, and Olivia Hamilton received the coach’s award. Washington concluded the summer with a 13-25 overall record.
