The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team saw their stay at the 2022 State Baseball Tournament draw to a close Thursday in a 7-4 loss to No. 2 Estherville Lincoln Central. The Golden Hawks were the sixth seed in the tournament field and the Midgets were second seeded. Mid-Prairie won their state tournament opener Tuesday over No. 3 Cascade 3-2. This was the sixth trip to state in program history for Mid-Prairie, their first overall since 2020 and the first time they had reached the semifinal round since 2007. The Golden Hawks also advanced to state in 2001, 2004 and 2006. In 2004, they won the program’s only state championship. Mid-Prairie ended the season 19-11 and will say good bye to seniors Will Cavanagh and Tyler Helmuth. In action at State Friday, three time defending state champion Van Meter won their fourth consecutive 2A title downing ELC 10-0 in five innings.
