After a run to the state tournament and a new team trophy from Carroll, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team continues to see more hardware head their way for their terrific play on the diamond in 2022. Four members of the Golden Hawk club were named to various All-River Valley Conference teams.
A pair of Golden Hawks were named elite All-RVC. Sophomore Karson Grout was an elite pick as an infielder. He hit .372 this season on 29 hits with a team best 28 RBI, .533OBP and scored 23 times. He was the lone Golden Hawk with multiple home runs and also led the team with 16 walks. Along with his work at the plate and in the field, he finished 4-0 on the mound in nine appearances, throwing 26 innings with a 2.39 ERA.
Junior Cain Brown was also an elite All-RVC selection as an outfielder. He led the Golden Hawks with a .382 average on a team high 34 hits with a team best 33 runs scored. He drove in 18 and walked 14 times with an on-base percentage at .476. He also put in work on the mound for the Hawks, making eight appearances out of the pen with a 1-2 record, 5.02ERA and three saves in 15 innings.
Junior Collin Miller was an All-River Valley South selection on the mound. Miller was terrific all season and untouchable down the stretch. For the year, he finished 5-2 in 13 appearances with a 3.02 ERA and a team best 72 strikeouts in 51 innings. He was the winning pitcher in Mid-Prairie’s district championship, substate and first round state tournament victories. Miller worked 20 innings in the playoffs, allowing just four runs and striking out 33 while going 3-0.
Senior Will Cavanagh was an honorable mention River Valley pick in the outfield. He hit .272 at the plate with 25 total hits, 19 runs scored, 12 walks and nine driven in. He was one of the captains of a Mid-Prairie defense that finished fourth in Class 2A in fielding percentage.
Mid-Prairie ended the season in the Class 2A state semifinals with a 19-11 overall record.
