The City of Kalona held their regular meeting of the Council on Monday night.

Approval of the Annual Iowa Department of Transportation Street Finance Report was granted. It was noted that $356,000.00 in tax revenue from Road Use Funds, in addition to $314,000.00 were expended on city streets projects, snow removal, equipment, maintenance, and fuel. The reserves were increased  by 9% to just shy of $600,000.00.

City Administrator for the City of Kalona Ryan Schlabaugh shares one of the upcoming road projects, “So one of the projects we’ll be taking on here in the near future this fall is to redo the intersection of B Avenue and Sixth Street which is kind of where we ended our downtown streetscape project. That intersection has kind of taken a beating over the years with high traffic and some  heavy traffic down there so we’re going to remove that intersection and then go east with it and create some ADA Compliant sidewalk connections and also redo the concrete in the street and connect to the good areas we have.”

This project will be financed by Road Use funds instead of property tax dollars.
