After the conclusion of the Washington County Fair, the 4-H members that were not selected to participate in the Iowa State Fair started to begin their preparation work for the start of the next 4-H season in September. Washington County 4-H and Youth Coordinator Amy Green talked with KCII about what is on the horizon for Washington 4-H.
“For the county program as a whole, this time of year which is the end of the fair and until the start of September, is about doing all of the paperwork and finishing all of our records for this year. 4-H prides itself on its record keeping, and so we have a process each year where kids turn in their record book for the year to the club leader, so that is what the kids will be doing all throughout August.”
This time of the year is also when current members can re-enroll for next year and when new members can join the group. Green says that anybody interested in joining 4-H for the first time should contact her at the Washington County Extension office for details about the enrollment process.
Forty-six non-livestock projects from Washington County are participating in the upcoming Iowa State Fair in Des Moines from August 11th– 21st. More information and a complete schedule of events for the fair can be found on the Iowa State Fair website.
