At a meeting at the Kalona Library, the House District 92 Democratic Convention nominated and unanimously approved Kalona resident Eileen Beran as their candidate for Iowa House of Representatives. District 92 is made up of six precincts in southern Johnson County and all of Washington County.

Beran stated she plans to advocate for public funds to stay with public education and for strong communities to attract skilled workers. She also stated her intention to encourage NO votes on Public Measure #1 on the November 8 ballot, owing in part to concern the amendment could weaken red flag laws and expressing how this is a personal issue to her because red flag measures might have prevented the firearm suicide of a family member.
