Senator Charles Grassley recently met with leaders from various nutrition organizations, businesses, and non-profits in Iowa during a roundtable on nutrition programs. Food cost and security has been a significant campaign issue for Grassley, as he recently introduced both the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act and the Meat Packing Special Investigator Act to try and combat rising food costs.
Grassley spoke with KCII about this recent roundtable regarding nutrition programs affected by the newly proposed Farm Bill. “The nutrition programs and the food stamp programs have always been tied in with the Farm Bill for the last 50 years. So, I wanted to hear from the people who deal with these programs that make up a majority of the bill, and then we’re going to talk with farmers about the farm aspects of the bill like crop insurance.”
Grassley will be seeking his eighth term in the U.S. Senate this year, as he will face off against his Democratic opponent Michael Franken in their first debate on October 4th. Grassley recently talked with KCII about what he hopes to confront Franken during the debate. That article can be found online at KCIIradio.com.
