Two familiar foes meet tonight under the Friday night lights for week two when the Sigourney-Keota Cobras travel to Wellman to face the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks. Mid-Prairie is 1-0 on the year after a 28-18 come-from-behind win at West Burlington Notre Dame last week. The Hawks are receiving votes in this week’s Class 2A Associated Press poll. In week one, Mid-Prairie rolled up 341 yards of total offense while holding the Falcons to 308, just 29 of those came after halftime. Braden Hartley led the attack with 29 carries for 198 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Collin Miller was five of 11 in his first start under center, throwing two touchdowns, one each to Cain Brown and Cobi Hershberger. Miller also had two picks. Defensively, Brown had eight and a half tackles and an interception at safety.

The Snakes had a rough first week, falling to Durant 38-14 in Sigourney. The contest was close through three quarters, with SK on top 6-0 after one, tied at six at half and down just 12-6 going to the fourth before the Wildcats exploded for 26 in the final frame. The Wildcats outgained the Cobras 436 to 219 in the game including 393 to 208 on the ground led by all-state running back Nolan DeLong with 22 carries for 345 yards and four scores. Cole Clarahan went over the century mark for the Cobras with 122 yards on 17 carries and a score. Cole Kindred also added a rushing score with his 43 yards. On defense, Evan Vittetoe was a factor with a team high six and a half tackles, two for loss and a pair of fumble recoveries. Sigourney-Keota has won the last two against the Golden Hawks, Mid-Prairie had won the previous three.
