The Mid-Prairie volleyball and cross country teams are both in action today. The Golden Hawk volleyball team travels to Mount Vernon for a tournament. Mid-Prairie is 6-1 this year after a three-set sweep of West Branch in Wellman Thursday. They are ranked No. 10 in Class 3A in this week’s poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Hawks are led by Dakota Mitchell with 96 digs, 73 assists for Landry Pacha and 39 kills for Jovi Evans. They are one of 16 teams in the field which includes No. 5 in Class 3A Davenport Assumption, Dyersville Beckman, Center Point-Urbana, Waterloo Columbus, No. 1 in Class 2A Dike-New Hartford, Dubuque Wahlert, Iowa City West, No. 5 in Class 4A North Scott, Ottumwa, Tipton, No. 3 in Class 4A Waverly-Shell Rock, No. 7 in Class 4A Western Dubuque and the No. 1 in Class 3A home Mustangs.

The Mid-Prairie cross country teams are in Pella Saturday. The Golden Hawk girls enter action ranked No. 2 in Class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa Association of Track Coaches, with three ranked runners in their lineup led by No. 1 Danielle Hostetler, No. 7 Abby Fleming and No. 20 Phoebe Shetler. The Mid-Prairie boys stand at No. 8 in Class 2A in this week’s poll. Emmett Swartzentruber in the lone ranked runner for Mid-Prairie at No. 18. Joining the Hawks in the field include ACGC No. 1in Class 1A boys and No. 6 in Class 1A girls, Baxter, Bondurant-Farrar, the No. 20 in Class 1A Collins Maxwell boys and their girls, area school Columbus, the No. 11 in Class 2A Des Moines Christian girls and their boys, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Lynnville-Sully, Montezuma, Mount Pleasant, the No. 18 in Class 3A Nevada boys and their girls, The No. 2 in Class 3A boys and No. 7 in Class 3A girls from North Polk, the No. 3 in Class 4A boys from Norwalk and their girls, Oskaloosa, Panorama, the No. 3 in Class 3A boys and No. 5 in Class 3A girls from Pella and Pella Christian.
