On August 31st, Goshen College President Rebecca Stoltzfuls announced the first recipients of the college’s inaugural Global Citizenship Award during the opening convocation on campus.

Suzanna Yoder of Wellman, Iowa, was an inaugural winner. She won first place and a $10,000 scholarship. Yoder studies social work and plays basketball for the women’s team. She is known for her dedication to building bridges between people both on and off the court, as demonstrated by her semester abroad in Senegal.

The award is open to any undergraduate student who is in their third year of study. Eligible students are nominated by their professors, and the nominees must then write an essay describing how they experienced or embraced the college’s core values during their time as students. These values include Christ-centeredness, passionate learning, servant leadership, compassionate peacemaking, and global citizenship
