The Fall Grant Application Cycle has ended for the Washington County Riverboat Foundation, the nonprofit license holder for the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort. The foundation received 46 submitted applications asking for approximately $9,300,000 in funding. In May, the Riverboat Foundation awarded approximately $3,430,000 to 17 grant recipients. The board has invited six selected applicants to present their grant requests to the board on Wednesday, at 6:00 pm, at the YMCA in Washington.

One of the presentations will be for Washington’s Wellness Park, which is looking for funding to upgrade the playground to make it more inclusive for children and other community members with special needs. Patty Koller, the Executive Director for the Washington County Riverboat Foundation, spoke with KCII about why specific projects were picked for presentation.

“We simply cannot hear from all 46 organizations because there is not enough time. Generally, the projects that are selected for presentation are asking for large amounts of money, so we want to be more cautious when we are thinking about lending that amount of money out.”

Koller also said that just because an organization was picked for a presentation does not mean it will receive funding and that projects that weren’t selected for presentation are still eligible for funding. No decisions or discussions about possible funding will occur during the meeting, as a separate meeting will be held later to award funding to projects. The public is allowed to attend the meeting, which will be at 6:00 pm at the YMCA in Washington on Wednesday.
