With Election Day, Tuesday, November 8th, fast approaching, the City of Winfield reminds its citizens of the rules for placing campaign signage on display. The main concern is to not have campaign signs placed on the City’s right of way or the public right away, which in most cases is the area between the sidewalk and the street.
Deputy Clerk for the City of Winfield Lisa Rees reminds residents of the posting rules, “Put it on your side of the sidewalk and mainly that’s just because the City doesn’t endorse anybody running for elections. So it has to be removed off of our property. Then Election Day the signs can’t be posted within 300 feet of, in our case, our’s would be City Hall because that is where our polling place is held. So we just have to make sure that there are no signs within 300 feet of our City Hall.”
Rees adds that in most cases when a sign has to be moved it usually is just a sidewalk width difference.
