The Louisa County 4-H Livestock Judging Club entered two senior teams in the 2022 Iowa 4-H Livestock Contest, August 27th, at the Hansen Ag Learning Center on the Iowa State Campus in Ames.

Teams had to rank four animals in a livestock show. In most cases, the contestants from the teams are given a written scenario describing how the animals will be used, as well as data collected and the visual appearance of the animals. They must give an oral explanation for their choice and are graded on their accuracy and organization.

The team of Will Hoopes, Carter Loyd, Drew Totemeier, and Cole Storm finished as overall runners-up and qualified for nationals based on their performance. Hoopes finished fourth in the individual competition and second in the beef competition. Storm finished sixth, Loyd ninth, and Totemeier tied for tenth and first in sheep. The team won the sheep division, and was scored second in cattle and swine.  The group has earned the opportunity to compete in one of two National 4-H Livestock Contests, either, The American Royal in Kansas City Livestock Show, October 6th to the 23rd, or The National Western Stock Show which will be held from January 7th to January 23rd, 2023.
