Monday, September 12th, was the kick-off show for this year’s Washington Performing Arts Series schedule, with hundreds turning out to see the five-person acapella troupe Backtrack Vocals. The next show set to take place at the Washington Performing Arts Center will be the award-winning bluegrass band, the Okee Dokee Brothers. The five-time Parents’ Choice Award and the four-time Grammy Award winners have garnered praise from NPR’s All Things Considered and USA Today.
Bob Youngquist, the Co-Chair of the Washington Performing Arts Series, talked with KCII about how widespread the brothers’ popularity is. “If you grew up in Minnesota, you recognize the name because they are such a popular act up there. Every state fair they performed at, the tickets have sold like mad. In fact, we were selling tickets downtown for this series, and a lady came up to me and said she was traveling all the way to Minneapolis to see them. So, we are just delighted to have them on the schedule.”
The show will be Sunday, October 9th at 3:00 pm, with tickets available online through the Washington Auditorium’s website.
