It was all Winfield-Mt. Union on Tuesday in an area volleyball showcase against Hillcrest Academy on a night where the Southeast Iowa Super Conference banded together for a fundraiser.
All SEISC teams participated in the Brink’s Bench – Fight Like An Iowa Girl cancer fundraiser for Lisa Brinkmeyer. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s basketball and volleyball hall of fame inductee and current assistant director of the IGHSAU is battling brain cancer and every team in the league last night helped raise funds for her treatment. The Wolves won the showdown on the court by sweeping the Ravens with scores of 25-3, 25-7, and 25-15. Melina Oepping and Bradie Buffington led the way with six kills a piece, Keely Malone dished out 19 assists, and Keetyn Townsley compiled seven digs and was 12 of 13 serving with six aces.
WMU improves to 13-5, 3-0 in the league, and travels to Lone Tree tomorrow. Hillcrest drops to 1-12 overall, 0-4 in conference, and host Columbus tomorrow.
