It was a nightmare start and it never got better last night for the Washington Demon football team when they closed out non-district play with a 37-7 loss to Fort Madison on the road.
As heard on KCII, the Demons opened the game with a quick three and out only to have the Bloodhounds (4-0) march right down the field capped off by a 31 yard touchdown pass from Aidan Boyer to Henry Wiseman. A lot of dinking and dunking down the field was effective for the Hounds with two more touchdown passes by Boyer in the first half for a 23-0 lead at intermission. Washington got a few stops out of break, but a special teams fumble and deflection interception allowed them to score and slam the door with a 37-0 advantage. The only Demon tally of the night came in the final minute when Jude Brown found the end zone from 12 yards out. Washington was out gained 326-190 including 238-54 in the passing game. Boyer was 23 of 30 for 238 yards and four touchdowns. Ethan Patterson collected 54 passing yards on four completions and Tayven Stuart had 84 rushing yards. James Strabala led the defense with 9.5 tackles.
Washington drops to 2-2 and open district play Friday hosting Grinnell for homecoming.
