The Highland football team travels to Wapello tomorrow in search of their first win in 2022. Highland is 0-5 after a 55-14 Homecoming loss a week ago to Alburnett. Highland has been outscored this year 255-42 on the year with an average game score of 51-8. The Huskies put up 195 yards per game, 126 of that on the ground. Individual leaders include Sage Hartley-Norman at 19 of 52 through the air for 326 yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions. His favorite target is Ethan Paisley with nine catches for 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Hartley-Norman is also the leading ground gainer with 46 carries for 270 yards and two touchdowns. Logan McFarland leads the Highland defense with 18 tackles. Tristin Richardson has the lone Huskies takeaway this year with a fumble recovery.
Wapello is 2-3 after a loss at Lisbon last week 46-6. The Indians average 22 points per game while surrendering 30. The Wapello offense posts 289 yards per game, 156 of that through the air. Casey Short is 59 of 111 for 780 yards, four touchdowns and two picks. His favorite target is Jake Gustison with 16 catches for 253 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Wapello is led by Dylan Woodruff with 26 carries for 227 yards and six touchdowns. Leader of the Indian defense is Gustison with 29 tackles. Wapello has six takeaways this year, with Short’s three interceptions leading the way. Wapello has won six straight in the series, including a 34-21 victory a year ago.
