October 2nd-8th is National 4-H Week, and Washington County has been listed as one of the top ten largest 4-H programs in the state of Iowa, with nearly 400 4th-12th grade members last year and 180 kindergarten-3rd graders in Clover Kids. The theme of this year’s National 4-H Week is Opportunity4All, to highlight 4-H’s commitment to providing kids with a positive learning environment to develop leadership skills.
Annie Morrison, a Washington County 4-H program member, talked with KCII Radio about her experiences with the 4-H mentorship programs. “I personally was a Clover Kid and was a part of the mentoring program, and it helped me a lot. I was interested in rabbits, and I was able to be mentored by people that I knew personally. They helped me by showing me how to hold, show and identify different types of rabbits. So, I would say the program definitely helps a lot.
Several special events will be hosted by Washington County 4-H this week to help celebrate National 4-H Week. Contact Washington County 4-H at the Washington County Extension and Outreach Office for more information about the planned celebrations for the week.
