The Highland Huskies volleyball team spoiled senior night with a straight-sets win over the Lone Tree Lions yesterday. Highland took the opening set 25-18, and while Lone Tree pushed the Huskies, they fell in the second 28-26, allowing the home team to get the sweep with a 25-12 third-set victory.
Senior setter Mylei Smith seemed to cover every inch of the court for Highland, piling up 15 assists, six aces and 11 digs. Junior outside hitter Sarah Burton led the Husky attack with 12 kills and mixed in a pair of aces and 18 digs. Sophomore Adeline Krotz showed versatility beyond the typical middle blocker, as she added a team-high 22 digs to her nine kills.
The victory breaks up a three-match losing streak for Highland, who improves to 9-11. Lone Tree also fell Monday night against Danville, as they’ve now lost three straight to fall to 4-18. The Huskies are next in action tomorrow night against Louisa-Muscatine, while the Lions visit the Hillcrest Academy Ravens tomorrow evening.
