Secondary students in the Winfield-Mt. Union School District interested in working with tools while also enhancing their problem-solving skills have the opportunity through the school’s Industrial Technology Program.

Led by Industrial Arts teacher, Trevor Kongable, classes start at the 7th grade level with simple wood projects and 3D printing. From there, 8th grade students dive into mechanics through building robots.

As students enter high school, the opportunities grow. Students can learn skills like welding and furniture making, and take an Intro to the Built Environment class, which covers basic plumbing, electrical, and soldering of a circuit board.

Projects and skills taught in these classes are highlighted on the YouTube channel “Mr. Kongable”. The channel showcases student projects and offers short instructional videos that supplement classroom lessons, ensuring that all students in the program obtain this real-world experience.
