Three KCII area football teams have shined under the Friday night lights this year and are listed in this week’s Associated Press polls.
The WACO Warriors remain unbeaten and at No. 2 in this week’s 8-man poll. Head coach Chad Edeker’s bunch are closing the gap between themselves and No. 1 Remsen St. Mary’s. The Warriors have four first place votes this week and 90 total votes, Remsen has five first place votes and 95 total votes. WACO impressed on Friday, improving to 8-0 with a dominant 43-0 victory over Winfield-Mt. Union who was receiving votes a week ago. The Warriors will try to finish a perfect regular season this week when they travel to 1-6 Tri-County.
The Columbus Wildcats are at No. 6 in this week’s Class A poll. The ‘Cats are also receiving one first place vote. Head coach Dave Lekwa’s Columbus crew remained unbeaten last week, moving to 7-0, with a 57-0 shut out of North Cedar. The Wildcats host 6-1 Alburnett this week on Senior Night in Junction with the Class A District 5 title on the line.
The Sigourney-Keota Cobras remain in the receiving votes category of the Class 1A poll. SK is the top team on the outside looking in with 11 votes, just behind No. 10 MFL-Mar-Mac’s 17. Head Coach Jared Jensen’s team claimed the district crown Friday, crushing Central Decatur 53-6 on Homecoming at the Snake Pit, moving their record to 5-2. The Snakes are on the road Friday, trying to spoil 3-4 Van Buren’s Senior Night.
