The Columbus Community Wildcat volleyball team continued their strong play of late with a five-set win at Pekin Tuesday night. Columbus took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-13, seemingly on their way to an easy victory. But the home-standing Pekin Panthers responded to take the next two sets 25-16 and 25-13 to even things up. The final set went back and forth, but Columbus ultimately gutted out a 15-13 victory to take the match.

Senior outside hitter Victoria Howell led the attack with 9 kills and had four aces on a night when Columbus served incredibly well. The Wildcats had 21 aces as a team, including seven from senior Miriam Ruvalcaba. Freshman Kennedy Woepking came off the bench for four aces and four kills, while sophomore Aracely Garza added three kills and two aces. Senior setter Sara Vela covered every other aspect of the game, piling up two kills, 21 assists, four aces and 11 digs.

Columbus Community wins its third of the last four matches to improve to 6-19. The Wildcats complete their regular season tonight when they host Washington.
