A pair of KCII area schools find themselves represented in the week eight cross country rankings issued by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches. The Washington Demon boys are No. 17 in the Class 3A team rankings this week, after spending last week at No. 13. Washington has one ranked runner in their lineup as Micah Rees continues his ascent, moving up two spots to No. 6 in the individual ratings this week. The Washington girls jumped into the top ten for the first time this year, standing at No. 8 in the team 3A rankings, after spending last week at No. 12. Iris Dahl is the lone ranked Demon on the girls side, staying put at No. 12 for the second straight week. The Demons were last in action over the weekend at North Linn where the girls were third as a team with Dahl taking third individually, while the boys were seventh with Rees’ runner-up school record performance leading the way. Washington runs today at the SEC Championship meet.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls are still ranked No. 2 in Class 2A this week according to the IATC. The Hawks have three ranked runners in their lineup, Danielle Hostetler remains in the No. 1 spot, Abby Fleming is No. 12 and Phoebe Shetler No. 22. The Golden Hawk boys are No. 13 this week after holding 11th a week ago. The Hawks have one ranked runner in their lineup with Emmett Swartzentruber No. 11 in 2A. The Golden Hawks ran at Monday’s River Valley Conference meet in Iowa City where the girls were conference runners-up led by Hostetler with an individual RVC title and Fleming runner-up. The Golden Hawk boys were sixth in the team standings with Preston Yutzy’s eighth place run serving as the top finish. The Golden Hawks will run in the 2A state qualifier meet next week at Pella Christian.
