If there is any sliver of hope for a postseason berth in 2022 for the Washington football team another must-win game awaits tonight when they head home to Case Field to dual Fairfield in week eight.

Washington comes into the day sitting at 3-4 and 1-2 in class 3A district 5 with the league win coming last week in an exciting 28-27 final against Keokuk. Desperately needing the ground game to get going, the Demons ran for 303 yards including Tayven Stuart collecting 195 yards with two touchdowns. Casen Evans managed 12.5 tackles for a defense that denied the Chiefs of a potential game winning two point conversion in the waning moments. Fairfield sits at 4-3 and 2-1 in the district with a one point victory against Keokuk also on their resume. They have one of the top quarterback and wide receiver combo in the state with Tate Allen and Max Weaton. Allen has the second most touchdowns in 3A with 24 including 18 through the air while completing 57% of his passes for 1,236 yards. The 6’5’’ Weaton has hauled in 36 receptions for 518 yards and a state best 11 house calls.

The Demons have won 10 straight in the series dating back to 2012 and edged out a 17-14 thriller last season.

The district clash begins at 7:30 p.m. in Washington. Listen to the action live on FM 106.1 KCII with the Football Friday Preview Show beginning at 6 p.m. and we will take over from Case Field at 7 p.m.
