All registered Iowans can begin casting their ballots for the 2022 general election today with the start of the absentee voting period. Today marks the first day Iowans can vote in person at their county election office, and the first-day auditors can mail absentee ballots to voters who requested them.

Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer spoke with KCII Radio about the approaching deadline for absentee ballot requests. “The important thing for people to remember is that the deadline for an absentee ballot to be mailed is Monday, October 24th, and our office will be open until 5:00 pm that day. If you mail your absentee ballot request, your request must be postmarked no later than October 24th.

Widmer also noted that any absentee ballots planned to be delivered by hand must be dropped off at the Auditors Office on the second floor of the Washington County Courthouse because there is no designated ballot drop box location in Washington.
