The City of Washington, the Washington Public Library, and Women of Washington are hosting a meeting today at the Washington Public Library at 7:00 pm. Attendees will be able to ask questions for the committee and will be able to learn more about Washington’s designation as one of Iowa’s Great Places.

The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs recently designated Washington as one of a handful of new communities that will be listed as an official Iowa Great Place. At the September 6th Washington City Council meeting, the council unanimously approved the establishment of an Iowa Great Places Committee to oversee the program, evaluate and make referrals to the council on the elements of the program, and be actively involved in the great places mentorship program.

Washington City Councilwoman Millie Youngquist spoke with KCII Radio about what purpose this meeting serves. “This meeting is for anybody in the Washington community or the surrounding area who is interested in learning more about Washington’s latest designation as one of Iowa’s great places. We have an opportunity once in a ten-year designation period to apply for a grant from the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs for a project that relates to our vision plan, which is one of the things we will be talking about during the meeting.”

The meeting will be held in one of the library’s meetings room.
