The night did not end in a playoff berth, but it was an entertaining close to the regular season for the Washington football team by winning three straight including running their way past West Burlington 27-6 at Case Field on Friday for Senior Night.

As heard on KCII, the offensive line was having a field day all night opening up holes for Tayven Stuart and the ground game amassed 369 yards. After a couple promising drives that stalled out deep in Falcon (2-7, 1-4) territory, the Demons got on the board early in the second when they recovered a West Burlington fumble and Stuart raced 68 yards to the house on the ensuing drive. Playing for the injured Ethan Patterson, sophomore Logan McDole tossed his first career touchdown late in the half from 16 yards out to Jude Brown. Up 14-0 at the break, the orange and black continued to pile on in the second half when McDole found the end zone from one yard out and Stuart did the same in his final game at Case Field. The senior finished with 279 rushing yards and two touchdowns. McDole was four of five through the air for 28 yards and James Strabala carried the rock five times for 34 yards. Strabala collected 8.5 tackles for a stout Demon defense that kept a run heavy Falcon team to 121 rushing yards.

Head Coach Nick Ehret tells KCII Sports the resolve of his team after a rough middle stretch of the season was key. “It says a lot about our team. We had a tough four game stretch where not a lot was going right. They could have packed it in and been done with it. They continued to fight back and had two come from behind wins against Keokuk and Fairfield. It says a lot about our seniors, understanding what was at stake, and getting it done.”

The Demons close the season with a winning record at 5-4 and 3-2 in the district. Grinnell beat Fairfield to secure the second spot in the league and the Demons just missed a playoff at large bid by finishing 19th in the RPI rankings.  They say goodbye to 12 seniors.
