A long road trip and a top three team was the assignment given to head coach Scott McCarty and the Winfield-Mt. Union football team in Friday’s opening round of the 8-man playoffs. After a tight first half, No. 3 Don Bosco pulled away from the Wolves after intermission in a 48-18 win. The Dons lead was 13-6 after one frame and 27-18 at half. The second half saw the Dons outscore WMU 21-0.

The Wolves were outgained 434 to 333 in total yards, including 366 to 190 on the ground. WMU did hold an advantage through the air at 190 yards to 68. Cam Buffington owned the ground, putting up 205 yards and three touchdowns on just 15 carries. Jake Edwards had a good night through the air, going 11 of 18 for 143 yards with an interception. Abram Edwards hauled in six passes for 55 yards. Buffington had 10 tackles to lead the WMU defense, but the Wolves couldn’t slow down Dons back Myles McMahon who went for 322 yards and six touchdowns on 28 carries. The Dons also forced three Winfield-Mt. Union turnovers. With the loss, the Wolves end their season at 6-4 and say goodbye to six seniors, Jarit Tapia, Caleb Giese, Chris Alvarez, David Garcia, Isaac Wilson and Kai Malone.
