Through the Kirkwood Dual-Enrollment program, students in grades 9-12 can work toward their high school diploma, college credit, and state certification.

These dual-enrollment classes, which are available at, but not limited to, the Kirkwood Regional Center in Washington, allow students in grades 9-12 to work towards their future plans while also preparing them for college life. Students will be able to take a variety of classes at the regional center, as well as some online, that will allow them to explore career interests. Classes are organized by a career academy, which is a collection of courses offered during the fall and spring semesters. The classes provide students with a safe environment while also allowing them to interact with a variety of professors who have worked in the real world/college setting.

Classes can range from fundamental liberal arts courses like composition to speech classes. An auto mechanic academy is offered, where students can learn about cars, air conditioning, and other similar topics. There is also a welding academy, which allows students to learn welding in a controlled environment while also providing them with the next step in the welding world.

Another academy course offered at the regional center is Patient Care. When a student enrolls in this academy, they will take classes that will cover a variety of topics in the medical field. By the spring semester, the student will be able to take their CNA (Certified Nursing Assistants) Board exam. Giving that student the opportunity to have their state certification before they even graduate from high school.

Enrollment will begin in February, though no specific date has been set. If you are interested in enrolling in these courses, the best way to proceed is to contact your local school counselor to determine the next steps. Seniors-plus and home school students are also welcome to apply.
