In their recent closed meeting, a decision was made by the Columbus School Board to expel the student suspected of breaking into and vandalizing the school in October. The expulsion will last one full calendar year.

The sixteen-year-old junior, who was not named, allegedly broke into the Columbus secondary school building in the morning hours of October 17, causing damage to windows, an entrance area, trophy cases, and network cables.

The student was taken into custody shortly after the break-in and the damages resulted in a cancellation of classes for the day. Classes resumed the following Tuesday, however repair work is ongoing. A confidential agreement was reached between the district and the student’s family to pay restitution for the damages.
