The first snowflakes of the season fell across Washington County Tuesday. The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the KCII listening area through 6p.m. Tuesday evening, forecasting 1-3 inches of snowfall. Just before noon, the advisory was shifted to Iowa and Johnson Counties in the northern part of the listening area. During the morning commute, the Iowa Department of Transportation reported roadways in the northern half of the KCII listening area as partially snow and ice covered. According to a trained weather spotter, the City of Washington received 1.25” of snow. Fairfield, Parnell and Oakland Mills all recorded one inch, Columbus Junction received a half inch and Sigourney had the highest total recorded at 1.5”.
Flurries are expected Wednesday with high temperatures in the 20s and 30s through the weekend. Our next chance of precipitation is a forecast of rain on Thanksgiving with a high of 45 degrees. Stay tuned to KCII for weather updates.
