The Washington Demon girls’ wrestling team got their new season off to a nice start last night at the North Scott Tournament. While Washington finished ninth in the team standings, the three wrestlers representing the Demons all finished third place or better in their weight classes.
Leading the way was senior Teegan Sulentich, who started the season 2-0 by finishing atop the 155-pound division. Sulentich pinned both of her opponents, needing only eight seconds to defeat Cora Davis of North Scott and 38 seconds to knock off Kiya Stenger of Epworth. Sophomore Peggy Miller was the runner-up in the C division at 145 lbs, getting pinned in her only match of the night against April Johnson of Davenport-Assumption. Junior Jenna Bose was in the same weight class and split her matches in the B division after she responded to losing via pin to Sarah Roling of Epworth with a pin of her own against Nevaeh Howard of Burlington-Notre Dame. The Washington girls will next wrestle at a tournament in West Liberty this coming Monday.
