As Thanksgiving approaches, many Iowans will be hitting the road, and law enforcement will be out to ensure the safety of all travelers. Earlier this week, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office implemented additional patrol on the roadways that will continue through November 25.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be cracking down on dangerous driving. As part of their initiative, entitled “Make It to the Table This Thanksgiving,” they are encouraging drivers and passengers alike to use their seat belts during holiday travel.
333 passenger vehicle occupants were killed in vehicle crashes during Thanksgiving weekend of 2020. That year, four out of five occupants ejected from vehicles during crashes were killed. In addition to buckling your seatbelt, law enforcement also reminds travelers to avoid impaired and distracted driving this holiday season.
