The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys wrestling team got the new season underway Tuesday in North English facing three non-conference opponents in a quadrangular. The Golden Hawks duel win came against the Bears on their home mat 54-28. Mid-Prairie got wins in contested matches from Mose Yoder at 120 by fall, Mason Howe at 126 by fall, Tucker Miller at 132 by fall, Dom Shivley at 160 by fall, Owen Trimpe at 170 by fall, Kaden Meader at 182 by fall, and Terry Bordenave at 220 by fall.
The other two duels saw tight team scores but neither went the Hawks way. Mid-Prairie dropped a nail-biter to Wapello 36-33 with Golden Hawk contested match wins coming from Mason Howe at 126 by fall, Owen Trimpe at 170 by 6-1 decision, Terry Bordenave at 220 by fall and Burke Berry at 285 by fall.
Mid-Prairie fell to Eddyville-Blakesburg 40-36. Contested match wins against the Rockets for the Hawks came from Landry Gingerich at 145 by fall, Dom Shivley at 160 by fall, Owen Trimpe at 170 by fall, and Terry Bordenave at 220 by fall. Standing 1-2 on the year, Mid-Prairie opens the River Valley Conference duel season Thursday with a trip to Tipton to face Dyersville-Beckman, West Branch and the home Tigers.
