The Washington Demons got a new wrestling season off on the right foot by winning a trio of duals Tuesday night at home. Washington defeated Highland 57-12, knocked off HLV 60-6 and beat Iowa Valley 63-18.
Demon seniors Curtis Stender and Colley Billingsley won their first bouts of the season at 195 and 220 pounds, respectively. Sophomore Nate Edmonds also got a victory at 113 lbs. Multiple wins were attained by freshman Max Anderson at 106; sophomore Aaron Boone at 126; freshman Caden Greiner at 132; senior Jack Kleese at 138; sophomore Jude Carter at 145; junior Lane Schrock at 152; and junior Chase Greiner at 160.
The Highland Huskies also lost 72-12 to Iowa Valley but were able to pick up a 48-12 victory over HLV. Freshman Brock Thomann got the Huskies’ only head-to-head win at 132 lbs. The Washington girls also wrestled Tuesday night in five individual bouts against Iowa Valley. Senior Teegan Sulentich had the Demons’ only win with a pin at 155. While the Washington girls next wrestle at Williamsburg, the Demon boys will participate in a duals tournament tomorrow at Cascade. Highland is taking part in the tournament at Wapello Saturday.
